Americans absolutely *love* Toad-in-the-Hole. Or at least, the Americans
who I've fed it to do.

Out of interest, where did you buy the variously unsatisfactory vegetables?

My own personal rule, more heavily enforced the longer I spend living in
SF, is "don't buy from supermarkets".

"Supermarkets" includes the ever-so-popular-with-woolhead-hipsters Whole
Foods.

The only place I've found consistent variety and quality of vegetables
is at Rainbow Grocery, which can get horribly crowded with hippies at
times, but really is very good. Oh, and they stock a bunch of good
cheese too. And beer. Lots of good beer. And proper organic milk, and...

...yeah. Don't listen to the lazy people who happen to live near it;
ditch Whole Foods and get thee to Rainbow.

(pain in the arse without a car, mind you.)
