If I remember right there had been an increase in food geeking on the 
London Perl Mongers list which was threatening to overwhelm the list so 
I set london.food up following the trend of london.pm (Perl) and 
london.class (Java) mailing lists. I'm not sure why i did it on my own 
server rather than on the london.pm one.

Most of the people originally on the list were other people on the  
london.pm list or foody friends of mine. And my Mum (hi, Mum!).

For what it's worth there are now 74 people on the list and there have 
been 1170 messages as far as I can tell.
