Except arguably, this answer is wrong.

The AYBABTU meme gained popularity chiefly through the flash movie
which circulated. Taking definitions from earlier (I'm repeating
myself here, i think, but shrug), the flash movie was arguably an
organism containing the memes:

1) Fascination with Japanese 'Engrish', as demonstrated by the
original "All your base" game intro

2) Photoshopping - digitally altering images for humorous effect

3) Making weird-assed flash movies for fun and profit.

I'd argue that the rate of all three things being discussed, practiced
and circulated on the net increased in the wake of AYB.

There may be more memes contained within the AYB craze, can you spot
them?
