I found this on the LJ of a friend:

"Rice was made by first chopping onions, frying those with pepper in
vegetable and sesame oil. (The carrots were looking a little long-in-the-
tooth, or I'd have added them too.) Then frying the uncooked rice lightly
to add flavour. Then adding water. Breaking up 1 dried shiitake mushroom
into the water, and crumbling in 1 vegetable stock cube. A pinch of sugar.
A dash of worcestershire sauce. A squeeze of tomato puree. Bring it to the
boil. Add chopped tomatoes and frozen peas. Stir in egg. Heat for a little
longer. Turn off heat. Leave lid on pot, and allow to stand for 20-30
mins. Ta-da! I usually dribble a bit of soy in there before I eat it."

Sounds yummy - I am going to have to try it (or a variation on that
theme)...
