I can make very nice crisp veggies and even nice sloppy scrambled eggs in the microwave. Just because you (plural) can't do it doesn't mean it can't be done. On the original topic, our vegetable steamer (separate electrical appliance) gets a lot of use because it lives in the utility room and hence makes it easier when there are lots of different people all trying to cook at once.
