I like croissants very much and am always interested in new savoury
fillings for them. The one I came up with this morning was so nice
that I decided to share it with you all.

Croissant, warmed in the oven
4 thin stalks of grilled asparagus left over from last night
half a slice of pork shoulder ham (yes, the cheap stuff)

The textures contrasted very well and the flavours all went together.
The slight crunch of the asparagus was just right against the soft
insides of the croissant. I don't think proper ham would have worked
as well as the cheap stuff.

Any other ideas for me? I know about ham and cheese, mushroom and
cheese, cheese and tomato. And I don't like sweet fillings.

PS to grill the asparagus just wash it, dry it, lay it on the grill
pan in a single layer, drizzle over olive oil, add salt and pepper,
grill under a pre-heated grill for 6-7 minutes (for the thin stalks
that we had) or more (for thicker ones). No need to turn with thin
stalks, might need to with thicker ones.
