I'm guilty of this myself though. Once, when ordering invites to a Sky Launch party (temping as a lowly secretary) I ordered an invite for a 'Mr Martin Dale'. Unfortunately when it turned up, it didn't match his ID and he wasn't allowed entry. Why? It was addressed to Mr Martine Dow. :) My finest moment. Your burgers sound delicious. I bought a pack of parsnip crisps from Waitrose yesterday, they weren't the nicest I've ever tasted to be honest. OH and by the way, thank you all for the curry recipes. It looks like Sag Aloo may be on the menu. Possibly with aubergine added to it. -----Original Message----- From: James O'Brien [mailto:james@xxxxxx.xx.xx] Sent: 22 February 2007 15:30 To: london.food@xxxxxxxxxx.xxx Subject: Re: [london.food] Curry recipes On 22 Feb 2007, at 15:03, Russell Joanne ((ST)) wrote: > Anyway, I got a letter the other day addressed to Josie Apple??? I once got a letter addressed to Mr Jailbrine. My Dad, who has never seen a minute of military service in his life, still gets a Gentleman's Outfitters' catalogue addressed to Lieutenant General O'Brien. How they got Lieutenant General from "Jim" I'll never know. And to keep the topic of food on the - ahem - boil, here's what I had for dinner the other night- Mushroom Turkey Burgers and Maple Baked Root Chips (serves 4) Burgers: 1lb Turkey mince (if you have a food processor, make your own for better results) 4 Chestnut Mushrooms 4 Shiitake mushrooms 1 Egg 1-2 Tablespoons porage oats (or breadcrumbs but the oats are better) Root chips: 2 Parsnips 1 Sweet potato 1 tsp Coriander seed Honey or Maple Syrup Chips: Cut the parsnips into roughly chip-shaped chunks, lightly oil and bake in an oven at 190C for 15 minutes. Cut the sweet potato the same way, add to the pan and lightly oil. Brush the parsnips and sweet potato with maple syrup or honey (you might want to thin the honey slightly with water) Grind the coriander seed and use it to season the chips. Bake for a further 25 minutes at 190C, or until the edges of the parsnip crisp up. Burgers: Chop the mushrooms quite fine and add to the turkey mince. Mix well. Season using cajun, chilli powder, season-all, spice rub or whatever comes to hand. Use more seasoning than you think you should. Mix in well. Whisk the egg lightly and mix it in. Add oats progressively until the mixture is dry enough to shape into patties. Make 4 patties and cook them in a <s>wonky breville</s> Foreman grill for 7 minutes, or probably 4-5 minutes per side in a normal grill. Not the most complicated recipe in the world, I admit, but the oats and mushrooms made these burgers by far the best we've ever made. -James ********************************************************************** This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed.
