ok so Dawkins did invent the term meme (although it comes from the greek
mimemsis)

The concept did exist before in the works of Karl Popper on the theory of
science as well as in works about the spread of components of tunes in bird
song but Dawkins was indeed the first person to bring this together into a
general theory of ideas.

A quick visit to the nearest bookshop has left me wondering where the
(rather unsuccesful) meme that Dawkins did not invent the meme came from
