I've always like the kind of pound cake you make with oil instead of milk. Searching for a decent illustrative recipe though (we weren't a big pudding family when I was growing up so I have practically zero experience) bought up this http://www.thatsmyhome.com/sweetspot/cakes/chocolate-pound-cake.htm which makes me want to point out that saying "buy chcolate cake mix and follow the instructions on the back" IS NOT A RECIPE! The Devil's Food cake mxi stuff was really good though - I'm not sure if you can buy it readily in England though - we used to get ours from the American Airbase down the road.
