Mimesis doesn't mean imitation. Only a badly written or severely abridged
dictionary would give such an errant definition for "mimesis".

Mimesis, as a concept, rather more thoroughly refers to the epistemological
and semiotic distribution if ideas, morality and cultural norms, via a
repeated cycle of art-imitates-life and life-imitates-art.

Which is to say, the dissemination of memes in all but name.
